PEN Germany – Writers in Exile: Working meeting in Wiepersdorf
From March 23 to 25, nine exiled authors – all of whom are fellows in PEN Germany’s Writers-in-Exile Program – met for a working stay at Schloss Wiepersdorf. The authors from Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Iran, Cuba, Mexico, Myanmar, and Syria came from countries where the free word is suppressed and punished with imprisonment or even death. With human rights lawyer Victor Pfaff, and with translation and moderation by PEN Germany’s Writers-in-Exile representative, Astrid Vehstedt, they discussed the rule of law, democracy, and freedom of expression.
PEN is an association of writers represented in many countries worldwide that advocates for cultural freedom.
The participants of the PEN meeting in Wiepersdorf were Behnaz Amani, Benyamin Deilamkatouli, María Teresa Montaño Delgado, Mohammadreza Hajrostambegloo, Maryam Kishawarz, Ludmila Krause, Kerstin Martini, Nasiri Marzieh, Taciana Niadbaj, Phyu Nu, Menaf Othman, Victor Alexander Pfaff, Ariel Maceo Tellez, Steven Thomsen, Astrid Vehstedt, and Zhang Xiaomao.
