Stefan Scheib lives in Saarbrücken and has been working as an instrumentalist and composer in various ensembles specializing in improvised and composed music since 1993. Originally an electric bassist, he later switched to the double bass and expanded his repertoire to include sound design and audio production.
He also has a particular interest in interdisciplinary work. Through collaborative projects with writers, dancers, actors, and visual artists, he creates concert performances, installations, and radio plays. The focus of his work is the Liquid Penguin Ensemble, which he founded in 1997 together with writer and narrator Katharina Bihler.
The Liquid Penguin Ensemble’s works have received numerous awards, including the 2015 War Blind Radio Play Award for “Ickelsamer’s Alphabet” and the 2008 ARD German Radio Play Award for “Hearing Grass Grow.” In 2024, Katharina Bihler and Stefan Scheib received the Günter Eich Prize for their entire body of radio play work.
