Katharina Bihler has been involved in experimental theater, music, performance, and radio drama since 1990. She conceives, produces, and writes primarily for projects that explore the boundaries of artistic genres and often address scientific, historical, or European themes.
Since 1997, she has continuously conceived and developed performance formats with and for her Liquid Penguin Ensemble, ranging from small to large ensembles, creating texts and spoken material for these productions as well as spaces, sets, and costumes. She herself acts as a performer and vocal artist in these productions. In addition, she participates in other projects and ensembles, such as the interdisciplinary collective my wife is a little kränk, in concerts with open compositional concepts, or as a performer in the collective Les Oniristes.
Another focus of Katharina Bihler’s work is the development and production of audio works and radio plays, in collaboration with composer and double bassist Stefan Scheib, with whom she founded and leads the Liquid Penguin Ensemble.
Her radio plays with Liquid Penguin have received numerous awards, including the 2015 War Blind Association Radio Play Award for “Ickelsamer’s Alphabet” and the 2008 ARD German Radio Play Award for “Hearing Grass Grow.” In 2024, Katharina Bihler and Stefan Scheib received the Günter Eich Prize for their entire body of radio play work.
