World Poetry Day 2026 – A Celebration of Poetry
Together with its partner institutions, Haus für Poesie celebrates UNESCO World Poetry Day with readings by six international poets.
Julia Cimafejeva (born 1982 in the Brahin District, Belarus) was a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program last year. During her fellowship, two volumes appeared in German translation: “Ich zerschneide die Geschichte” (edition frölich) and “Blutkreislauf” (edition.fotoTAPETA).
Petr Hruška (born 1964 in Ostrava, Czech Republic) is one of the best-known poets in the Czech Republic. This year, the third selected volume of his poems in German translation by Martina Lisa will be published under the title “Und ich sah mein Gesicht” (Voland & Quist).
Jeannette Hunziker (born 1985 in Bern, Switzerland) is a fellow of Akademie Schloss Solitude. She writes poetry and prose and was a finalist at Open Mike in 2008. Her prose debut “Für immer alles” was published in 2024 (Lenos Verlag).
Nikola Huppertz (born 1976 in Mönchengladbach) is currently a fellow at the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia Bamberg. After numerous publications for children and young adults, her first poetry collection appeared last year: “in bester unordnung” (Wehrhahn Verlag 2025).
Matthias Nawrat (born 1979 in Opole, Poland) was a fellow of Kulturstiftung Schloss Wiepersdorf in 2024. He has published five novels; this March his sixth novel “Das glückliche Schicksal” (Rowohlt Verlag 2026) will follow. His first poetry collection, “Gebete für meine Vorfahren”, appeared in 2022 (parasitenpresse).
Tania Skarynkina (born 1969 in Smarhon, Belarus) writes prose in Belarusian and poetry in Russian. Most recently she published the essay collection “Rajcentr” (Pflaŭmbaŭm 2021, “District Town Paradise”) and the poetry collection “Yesmomochka” (Pflaŭmbaŭm 2022, “YesMom”).
UNESCO World Poetry Day honors the value of poetry, the diversity of language as cultural heritage, and the importance of oral traditions. Since its inception in 2000, Haus für Poesie has organized the central event in Germany together with its partner institutions.
Readings in the original languages with German translations for simultaneous reading
Under the patronage of the German UNESCO Commission. A joint event by Haus für Poesie and the German UNESCO Commission, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, Kulturstiftung Schloss Wiepersdorf, the Czech Literary Centre, the S. Fischer Stiftung, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia Bamberg.
