Manami Nagahari: Mi-Mi-Mi Neunte
Former Wiepersdorf Fellow Manami Nagahari presents her new composition.
In “Mi-Mi-Mi Neunte,” the composer explores the cultural perception of sound between Japan and Germany, based on a famous quote from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony: “O friends, not these sounds!”
In a play with language, animal sounds, synthetic sounds, and fragmented quotations from the “Ode an die Freude”, an acoustic space is created that oscillates between memory and the present, between irony and seriousness.
The German premiere will take place in Wiepersdorf, while the world premiere took place at the MID JAPAN Festival 2025 in Nagoya, Japan as an 8-channel audio work.
