Filming of "Hallräume" at Schloss Wiepersdorf

During an initial residency in May 2025 and a second in April 2026, authors Cony Theis and Jürgen Heiter worked at Schloss Wiepersdorf as part of a group fellowship. There, they developed the essayistic feature film "Hallräume" (Echo Chambers), which is set in and around Wiepersdorf.

Through overlapping layers of material and reflection, the film traces the German history of Schloss Wiepersdorf and its residents. The timeline spans from Bettina and Achim von Arnim in the 19th century and Soviet soldiers immediately after the end of World War II, to GDR-era artists and writers such as Anna Seghers and Heiner Müller. The post-1989 era is also highlighted through a focus on the Cologne-based poet Jürgen Becker and his son, the photographer Boris Becker. They all represent the historical layers in and around Wiepersdorf that are brought to light in "Hallräume."

The film is funded by the Filmstiftung NRW. The final cut is scheduled for autumn 2026.
