Ponyo

On August 24, the Kulturstiftung Schloss Wiepersdorf will screen the animated film "Ponyo" (2008) in the Tankhalle, a film directed by renowned Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, whose studio has been honored with an Academy Award, among other accolades.

The story follows the unlikely friendship between five-year-old schoolboy Sosuke and a goldfish girl named Ponyo, who becomes trapped in a glass jar in the sea and is rescued by Sosuke. Against her father's wishes, Ponyo decides to stay with Sosuke and become human. But her transformation comes at a cost – soon, a tsunami threatens Sosuke’s home. Together, the two children must work to restore the balance of nature.

"Ponyo" is a poetic film about friendship and family, about standing together in extraordinary circumstances, and about our relationship with nature in all its beauty and danger. A film that touches and inspires audiences both young and old.
