Bahzad Sulaiman, born in 1991, is a Kurdish artist who has been living in Germany since 2016. He works at the interface of performance and visual arts. In his work, he deals with the complexity of pressing social and political issues, such as the relationships between spaces, identities, transformation, climate change and resources.
In 2021 and 2022, he was a fellow of the European Network of Opera Academies "enoa" at the renowned Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. In 2022, he received a scholarship for the Theatertreffen, International Forum at the Berliner Festspiele and was awarded the Saarbrücken Regional Association's Culture Prize.
Bahzad has also received numerous grants from prestigious institutions, including the Bijloke Residency in Belgium, the "7THEX" Artistic Residency in Portugal, Italy and Germany, the Akademie Musiktheater heute, the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the Stiftung Kunstfonds, the INITIAL of the Akademie der Künste in Germany, the Look Up Residency in the UK and Germany, the DOLERS Residency in Belgium, the LIBERTY Creative Europe Programme in the UK and others.
