Nino Bulling works as a comic artist in Berlin. Shorter and longer works have appeared since 2012 in book form, online, in anthologies or in self-production. In 2017 they published the graphic poem Lichtpause with Rotopol, in 2019 in co-authorship with Anne König the volume Bruchlinien. Drei Episoden zum NSU with Spector Books. Most recently, Nino Bulling published the graphic novel abfackeln / firebugs with Edition Moderne and Colorama, which tells a story about trans*identity and love in times of fundamental change in habitats due to climatic and ecological influences.
Nino Bulling's works move on the borderline between documentary and fiction, exploring the possibilities of reality-based image narration beyond realistic modes of representation. Language and drawing are considered equal actors, taken from reality, examined, modified and amalgamated. The works address critical contemporary issues such as racism, right-wing terror and the arms industry, as well as universal and at the same time personal questions about friendship and belonging.
In recent years, Nino Bulling's works have been shown at the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (2021), HMKV Dortmund (2019), and documenta fifteen (2022), among others. Nino Bulling has taught comics/illustration at various international institutions, including the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
